Opening night of Evita rocked the house at the Asolo to a sold-out crowd. Evita played by Ana Isabelle filled the theatre with outstanding opera quality vocals that lifted you out of your seat. The musical play depicted the historical times in Argentina with the election of Juan Perone as President and Evita’s rise to power from a peasant background. Che a young rebel narrated in song giving you a more unbiased view of what transpired in history. Evita made her way to power by seducing the men in her life along with Juan Perone. She manipulated people and money becoming very popular with the poor in Argentina for her perceived benevolence. The opening stage work is dramatic and breathtaking and changes beautifully with each scene. The music is bold and uplifting. The choreography is outstanding with perfectly timed group numbers all singing and dancing in harmony. The ending has a fantastic tango routine by a couple that makes you want to take lessons or get up and dance. A fantastic production that takes you back to the 1940’s and 50’s. A must see Asolo production. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music was performed by an 11 piece orchestra. For some of those members it is the first time performing at the Asolo and others it is their second, third or fourth season
