Classical Music Celebration brings world artists to Sarasota Opera House May 11-12
SARASOTA, April 6, 2018 — A unique gathering of performers from around the world — including renowned classical musicians, a full orchestra and an aerialist — will perform at the first-ever Classical Music Celebration in Sarasota. Billed as “Music for the Senses,” the event is presented by Sarasota-based companies ESFM Entertainment and InterMedia Productions.
Three performances are scheduled: Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 12 at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., at the Sarasota Opera House, 61 N. Pineapple Ave. Ticket prices range from $19 to $79. A limited number of VIP tickets are available at $149 for patrons who want to meet the artists. Tickets are on sale now at tinyurl.com/CMC-May2018 and at the Opera House box office, 941-328-1300.
Headlining the Celebration is CARisMA, the dynamic husband-and-wife classical guitar duo of Carlos Corrieri of Italy and Magdalena Kaltcheva of Bulgaria. CARisMa is currently touring worldwide with renowned Italian singer/songwriter Andrea Bocelli. The pair counts among its diverse musical influences French classical composer Claude Debussy, Italian classical and film soundtrack composer Ludovici Einaudi, and the French avant-garde electronic music duo Daft Punk.
The assembly of talented performers also includes Sven Stucke, a German violinist who displays “effortless precision in his intonation and intense expressiveness” (The New York Concert Review); Ariadne Greif, a French soprano with a “luminous, expressive voice” (The New York Times); Roberto Borgatti, an Italian-American baritone who has performed lead roles with Opera New York and recently returned from a concert tour of Austria; and Olga Coronas, an aerialist from Kazakhstan who has performed around the world, including Circus Sarasota.
In addition to showcasing individual performers, the program will feature the Royal Symphony Orchestra, classical musicians who play with various orchestras in Florida and around the world, under the baton of Maestro Raffaele Ponti. An award-winning Conductor, Ponti conducts both the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra in Port Charlotte, Florida, and the Paducah Orchestra in Kentucky.
Scheduled music selections include Cavatina (theme from “The Deer Hunter”), music from “Schindler’s List,” Pablo de Sarasate: Zigeunerweisen Op.20 (“Gypsy Airs”), Quando Men Vo from La Boheme, and The Toreador Song from Carmen.
“We wanted to create a very special event that combines world-class musicians with the breathtaking aerial artistry of Olga Coronas,” said Classical Music Celebration co-producer and ESFM Entertainment President Javier Merino, whose company has produced ranging from Andrea Bocelli concerts in Guatemala to rodeos in Spain to soccer matches that brought European teams to the U.S.
“While classical music aficionados will certainly enjoy this concert, we’re sure that anyone who appreciates spectacular performances of any kind will love it,” Merino added. “We hope it will be the first of many events that bring some of the world’s most talented artists to local venues.”
InterMedia Productions President Jim Flynn, who is co-producing the concert with Merino, brings his eye as a video producer to the project. “Where else can you see an aerialist soar above the stage while enjoying great music in a beautiful, acoustically perfect opera house?,” Flynn asks. “This is sure to be a groundbreaking event Sarasota audiences will not want to miss.”
Merino notes that the concert, originally planned for September, had to be rescheduled due to Hurricane Irma. “Luckily, we’ve been able to reassemble this amazing group of international artists for three performances over two days in May,” said Merino. “We look forward to seeing fans of great music and unforgettable performances at the Sarasota Opera House in May. By the way, tickets make a perfect present for moms, since the event is just before Mother’s Day weekend.”
A portion of the proceeds from the Classical Music Celebration will benefit the Payton Wright Foundation, which supports families caring for a child with brain cancer. More information is a www.paytonwright.org
